Tamarack Wildlife Center will soon celebrate its 30th year of serving northwestern Pennsylvania as a wildlife rehabilitation and education facility. With our small staff and large volunteer pool, we currently admit over 800 injured or ill birds, baby mammals and turtles each year. We house 8 permanently disabled owls, hawks and falcons which we have trained "to the glove" for use in educational programs at schools, clubs, fairs and on site, reaching over 8000 people per year. In addition, we train many volunteers and college students, and receive close to 2000 calls from concerned citizens every year, many of which are resolved through information and counseling provided by our staff and volunteers. We are currently planning additions to our current building to make it better suited for the future uses we envision. Our facility is located in rural Saegertown, but we serve Erie, Crawford, Warren, Mercer, Forest and Venango Counties. Our monthly board meetings are often held in Edinboro because many of our board members live in Erie. One of our board members is planning to step down later this year and we are interested in recruiting a replacement for him and possibly an additional person as well. If you have an interest in wildlife and have time and skills to offer as a board member, please contact us to learn more.
