july 2019 member spotlight: kristen owens

This month's YEP Spotlight Member is Kristin Owens. Kristin is the Marketing Coordinator at Widget Financial. Two of her favorite things are traveling and fitness. In her personal time, Kristin enjoys swimming for the Erie Masters Swim Team and playing Masters Water Polo. She is currently learning German in her free time. She is a member of the YEP Member and Business Engagement Committee
We asked Kristin about working, living, and playing in Erie as a young professional
YEP: How did you find yourself working in the world of finance?
KO: I don't think I ever thought about marketing for a credit union until I started at Widget Financial. I really loved studying marketing in college and really loved that credit unions are all about "people helping people". It's great working at Widget Financial because I am able to work in a field that I love and I'm able to be out in the Erie community teaching others what credit unions are all about!
YEP: Aside from YEP, what are some other ways you connect with Erie and other professionals?
KO: I currently volunteer at Penn State Behrend and help with the Varsity Swim Team there. I grew up in the Erie swimming community so I really enjoy giving back to it, whether it be teaching swim lessons or coaching.
YEP: Why did you choose to join YEP? What do you feel has been the greatest benefit?
KO: I chose YEP to connect more with Erie. I think the best part about joining YEP is always meeting a new face at any event or meeting! I think it's important to change up your normal routine because if you don't, you'll never grow. YEP is great for this because you can learn so much from all the people you meet and even more about Erie!

YEP: What does your perfect Erie day look like?
KO: The perfect Erie day would start off with going to the Y to swim or workout. Next I would head down to Presque Isle. I'd either kayak, bike, go to the beach, or walk the trails! Next, I'd stop at Sara's and get ice cream before I left the peninsula. To end the day, I'd stop at any local Erie restaurant (I really can't pick a favorite!). I'd spend the day with family and friends. Any place in Erie is great when you can spend it with family and friends!
Thank you Kristin for your ongoing commitment and dedication to YEP!
